Summer Family Camp

Unite Your Family. Ignite Your Faith. Invite Your Friends.

Family camping is a great way to make special memories with your family in 2012.

There are 7.5 weeks of family camps this summer (below) - with lots of variety in themes. Whenever you decide to come you'll enjoy Bible studies for the adults, Bible lessons and activities for youth, music, great food, laughter, the many activities on and in Lake Carlos, recreation in the great summer sunshine and yes, even some rest! Here's a sample schedule of a typical week.

You can stay in our campground with specially designed spaces for rv camping, bring your tent, stay in one of our cabins (either new, remodeled or traditional), or enjoy a motel-style room in our Lodge.

Mount Carmel is a Christian camp for all ages where the gospel is experienced and lived out each day as we share in community together. We hope you are able to join us for some time apart with your family this summer.

You can register for family camp online at the link to the right, download a registration form, or download a brochure.

We welcome you and your family this summer to one of our camps!

Jesus' Jewish Words and Wisdom
Teacher: Dr. Lois Tverberg; Evening Presenter: Rebecca Mitchell
Artist: Jean Ranstrom

Sometimes you have to admit that Jesus's words are a puzzle. But, when you hear them in light of the first century Jewish ideas he built on, they take on new clarity and meaning. During the week we'll discover Jesus' teaching style, how he used traditional Jewish methods to engage his audience. We'll listen to him weave stories with irony, humor, and exaggeration, sprinkling them with imagergy and examples from his Scriptures. We'll unpack some of his parables by hearing how other rabbinic teachers expounded on similar themes. By excavating the dust of the centuries, we'll see Jesus' wisdom in a whole new light.

Non-Conformity: How to be Transformed Not Conformed in a Material World
Teacher: Pastor John Bjorge; Preacher: Pastor Jim Bjorge; Artist: Jean Ranstrom

We’re formed by what we’re most exposed to—the messages and images of the media and the world that desires to press us into its mold. But the Apostle Paul calls us not to be conformed but rather transformed—turned, renewed, liberated, redirected, empowered… converted!

The word conversion comes from the Latin con-vertere or con-versum and means “turning.” It refers more to a life-long process rather than the post-Reformation sense of the moment one becomes a Christian. It involves the Word, the Spirit and the human will which responds to God’s word of grace and responds to that grace in daily decisions regarding Christian living. As former Luther Seminary professor George Aus once so succinctly defined it, conversion is “that gracious operation of the Holy Spirit in the strength of which the sinner turns in repentance from his sin and in faith to Christ.”

Conversion is simply the reshaping and remolding of our will, our emotions, our mind, and our heart. The central question we will explore in this week is howdoes the Holy Spirit work in the ongoing conversion and transformation of God’s people and to what end?

Going Into the (Real) World
Teacher: Pastor Randy Freund; Musician and Worship Leader: Pastor David Christianson

The call of every Christian is straightforward.  It is called the Great Commission.  In order to go "into the world" with such a message, we need to understand the world into which we go.  The general perception of Christianity in our culture is not an altogether favorable one.  Christians must go into this particular world and time equipped to talk about their faith in reasoned, honest, and creative ways.
